The Hospital / Training Premises

South Warwickshire is a UK Top 40 award winning teaching hospital NHS Foundation Trust, whose patients recommend it more often than almost any other UK Trust. Our staff level of satisfaction places the Trust in the top 20% of all Trusts in the UK.
Based in Warwick, the Trust serves over 600 in-patient beds, plus community and palliative care nurses and clinics in the rural Warwickshire community. We cover a wide range of medical and surgical specialties as a general hospital, and are a Regional or National centre of excellence for some.
The Trust is small enough to be friendly and manageable, but large enough to offer variety of work, and experience of clinical advance

The Pharmacy Department

The friendly pharmacy team provides its services from a bright, modern department. This includes the recently re-furbished dispensary with a dispensing robot and electronic prescribing for discharge, stores and distribution area, out-patient department with a dispensing robot and a busy aseptics unit. The department provides a comprehensive clinical service to the wards and the community.

The Training Programme

Warwick offers a comprehensive training package supported by our very experienced team which is designed to enable pre-registration trainee pharmacists to develop their knowledge and professional responsibility. The trainee will rotate through all areas of the pharmacy including dispensary and out-patients, aseptics and cancer services, ward medicines management and clinical trials, with some experience of medicines information. We place a large emphasis on clinically orientated services and experience will be obtained in a variety of areas including cardiology, acute medicine, elderly care, gastroenterology, elective and non-elective surgery, paediatrics etc. First aid training and a 2 week cross sector community placement will be arranged and trainees will attend regionally organised study days throughout the year. In order to expand and enhance their clinical knowledge trainees are also encouraged to attend and participate in weekly clinical meetings, journal club meetings and any other clinical training offered on site.

Other Information

The Trust is strongly innovative, and you will catch a glimpse of some or all of the following:-

–     ward drugs automation;

–     an aseptics rebuild,

–     a partnership with a trading company for outpatient dispensing services,

–     the development of pharmacist independent prescribers
