Welcome to the Centre for Professional Development and Lifelong Learning.
The Centre for Professional Development and Lifelong Learning has a mission to provide postgraduate education for pharmacists and other health professionals whose role is central to the prescribing and use of medicines. Our distance learning system of delivery, open and flexible course design, and emphasis on work-based learning are unique within the pharmacy education provider community.
The work of the Centre was originally established in 1994 within an academic department of Keele University with strong links to the NHS. We have maintained and expanded these links with all sectors of the profession, building on our reputation for quality and excellence in education provision and support.
We became one of the centres of excellence in the School of Pharmacy when it was established in 2005. More recently, the Learning through Practice (LtP) Hub was launched in 2014 as a new part of the Centre, with a focus on learning in the workplace that starts in year 1 of the undergraduate Pharmacy (MPharm) course. The LtP Hub area of this website provides a showcase for our work with our LtP Partners in all sectors of the profession.
We have a highly successful track record of delivering on commissions, from the NHS and major national providers of high street community pharmacy services. Organisations such as these have specifically chosen Keele as the sole provider of CPD courses for their pharmacists, to develop their clinical, prescribing and professional career pathways, so that they can provide extended and innovative Pharmacy services for the organisation and the patients they serve. We can design bespoke programmes of study relating to pharmacy practice, medicines use optimisation and prescribing in the community, secondary care and primary care on request to meet the needs of individual practitioners and sponsoring organisations.
The expertise of the staff in the Centre for Professional Development and Lifelong Learning is recognised internationally, as well as throughout the UK. We provide advice and support to health organisations overseas about developing CPD courses for their pharmacists based on the Keele Postgraduate Pharmacy model of teaching and learning at a distance and in the workplace. We welcome expressions of interest for collaborations from potential international partners in this respect.
